Our first Buildcare Charity Lunch!

On Friday the 31st of May Buildcare held their first Annual Charity Lunch presented by Major Sponsor Knight Frank at the Merewether Surfhouse overlooking the iconic Newcastle coastline.

The 2024 Charity Lunch saw over 200 people from the greater Newcastle business community come together as a collective to show support for Buildcare and its first major initiative, Project One. Partnering with Webber Architects for the design phase of the project, Buildcare is aiming to construct four striking, custom designed and highly automated, two and one bedroom independent living units, with the inclusion of a studio for overnight carers accommodation. This residence will provide a stable, safe environment, suitable for a person living with physical disabilities, while generating revenue to be contributed into the critical research towards a cure.

Beyond fundraising, the lunch provided a valuable opportunity for networking amongst the community as well as time to enjoy the wonderful entertainment from host comedian Steven Philp along with our list of legend guests Danny Buderus, Julian Wilson, Jackson Baker, Aidan Guerra and Perri Roberts.

The highlight of the afternoon came when our special keynote speaker Mark Mathews took to the stage to deliver his world renowned presentation to the guests. Mark went into detail describing how he gets his mind ready to take on some of the world's biggest waves, dealing with career ending injuries and overcoming fear to inspire the room to achieve their full potential. It was an incredibly touching moment when Mark spoke of the impact that Buildcare Co-Founder Jason Apps has made on his own journey and the lifelong friendship that they now share.

The afternoon culminated with the announcement that collectively over $105,000 was raised towards the construction of Project One.

We would like to thank our Major Sponsors Knight Frank for their ongoing support as well as the contributions from our Presenting Partners Harcourts Newcastle and Hunter Valley, Buildcert, Ausure Newcastle and Eversons Food Processors. We would also like to thank all of the businesses that donated prizes for the silent auctions as well as all of the individuals that contributed their own time to make the event such a tremendous success.

The 2024 Buildcare Charity Lunch was the first of many events that Buildcare aims to host to work towards our goal of finding a cure for Spinal Cord Injuries. Through bringing together the local community we can all help to find a cure for such an important issue.
